BALDWIN PARK, CA — Los Angeles County homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shootings of three adults after deputies responded to a report of gunshots early Friday in Baldwin Park.

Authorities said deputies were called around 5 a.m. to the 3200 block of Millbury Avenue, where they found two men and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies rendered medical aid, but one man and the woman were pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner identified two of the victims as 56-year-old Bich Lu, who died of a gunshot wound to the head in front of her residence, and 60-year-old Thuan Chung, who died at a hospital from multiple gunshot wounds. The third victim had not yet been publicly identified.

According to a GoFundMe campaign shared with the Los Angeles Times by communications manager Alex White, Lu and Chung were a married couple whose children, Phillip Chung and Helen Chung, are now facing what Phillip described as an “unimaginable tragedy” after losing both parents in a “devastating act of violence.”

Phillip Chung wrote that his parents were devoted, hardworking people who dedicated their lives to their children and provided unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement. The fundraiser says the money will help 21-year-old Phillip, who is two months away from graduating from UC Riverside, and 18-year-old Helen with funeral and memorial expenses as well as Helen’s college tuition.

Helen is expected to attend UC Irvine, “holding tightly to the dreams her parents always encouraged her to pursue,” according to the fundraiser. The family told White they did not want to speak with reporters at this time.

Details of the investigation and the family’s public appeal were reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
