EVERMAN, TX — Human remains recovered during a multi-agency excavation at a home in Everman have been positively identified as 6-year-old Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez, bringing a devastating turn in a case that has gripped North Texas since the disabled child was reported missing in 2023.
The Tarrant County District Attorney confirmed Friday that the remains found this week belonged to Noel. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner used dental records to make the identification.
According to KHOU, Everman Police Chief Al Brooks said the identification brings both relief and another painful milestone in the path toward justice. A neighbor who knew the family told WFAA she felt relief that Noel’s body had been found, while also grieving the loss of hope that he might still be alive with a family member. The neighbor said it was especially painful because Noel had developmental and physical disabilities.
Noel was reported missing in March 2023, months after he was last seen alive in October 2022. Investigators were initially told falsely that he was living with his biological father in Mexico. Authorities have long believed Noel was dead, but until now his body had not been recovered.
District Attorney Phil Sorrells said the case has weighed heavily on the community from the beginning and said Noel deserved protection, care and love but instead became the victim of an unthinkable crime. Sorrells said prosecutors remain committed to holding Cindy Rodriguez-Singh fully accountable under the law. Rodriguez-Singh, Noel’s mother, is charged with capital murder and is awaiting transfer to a state mental health facility in an effort to regain competency to stand trial.
Authorities extradited Rodriguez-Singh back to the United States last year after investigators said she fled to India with her husband and other children shortly after an Amber Alert was issued for Noel in 2023. Noel was not with them when they left the country. The case drew national attention during earlier searches of the Everman property, when video showed cadaver dogs alerting in the backyard near a concrete patio investigators said Rodriguez-Singh had installed before leaving the country.
Letters Rodriguez-Singh wrote from jail to a judge and obtained by WUSA9 offered a glimpse into her condition in custody. In the letters, she wrote, “Why am I being placed in the state hospital? I’m not a psycho person,” and said she was being treated badly, received threats every day and was not a bad person. Before one court appearance, she wrote, “It might be the last day of jail tomorrow. God will be with me.”
In a statement, Brooks said the announcement of the positive identification means Noel can finally be laid to rest with respect, but said there is still too much ahead in the case to talk about closure. He ended the statement with a message to the child: “Rest well little man. We’ll take it from here.”
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
