TAMPA, Fla. — A jury has decided that the four men convicted of murdering Florida rapper Julio Foolio should each receive life sentences without the possibility of parole rather than the death penalty.

Julio Foolio, whose legal name was Charles Jones, was killed in what prosecutors described as a targeted hit while he was celebrating his birthday in Tampa.

Earlier this month, Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Davion Murphy, and Rashad Murphy were convicted on all charges, including capital murder, in the high-profile case.

Over the past week, jurors heard arguments on whether the four defendants should be sentenced to death or spend the rest of their lives in prison. The jury found that prosecutors had proven the case and aggravating circumstances, but still recommended life without parole for all four men.

According to WFLA, prosecutor Michelle Doherty argued that the killing grew out of a gang war and told jurors that the evidence showed each defendant was guilty of every charge filed against them.

Judge Michelle Sisco called it one of the toughest cases of her career and praised the jury for its service before the recommendation was returned. All four defendants are scheduled to return for sentencing on June 22 at 1:30 p.m.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
