SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A 24-year-old San Antonio man is facing a murder charge after police said he strangled the mother of his child during an argument at an east-side apartment complex and called 911 to report that she was no longer responding.

Marc Damien Balditt was arrested Wednesday night after officers responded to The Park at Sutton Oaks apartments in the 1000 block of Locke Street for a reported assault in progress.

According to KENS5, Balditt told dispatchers he had placed the woman in a headlock to “put her to sleep,” but she was not responding. Investigators said Balditt later told officers that the two had been talking about their child when the conversation escalated into a physical argument.

Police said Balditt then put the woman in a chokehold and did not let go for at least two minutes. By the time EMS arrived, the woman had already died.

Authorities said the couple’s child has been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services. Balditt remained jailed on a murder charge, and his bond was set at $250,000.
