LAS VEGAS, NV — Metro police said 20-year-old Kyree Brown was arrested in Riverside, California, on April 9 and is awaiting extradition back to Las Vegas. Police also said 18-year-old DaeQuan McGee was arrested in Inglewood, California, on April 29, extradited on May 19, and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
8 News Now reported that McGee was booked on charges including open murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, discharging a gun into a vehicle, and child abuse. Court records identified him as a co-defendant in the shooting.
The case stems from a March 30 shooting at about 9:45 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 5800 block of Sky Pointe Drive. Officers found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived. Police said the man, 30-year-old Deven Mays, died at the scene, while the woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators previously arrested 18-year-old Miles Spivey on multiple felony charges, including open murder, attempted murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, multiple counts of first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure or vehicle, and child abuse or neglect.
According to an arrest report, Spivey contacted Mays through Instagram and arranged to buy a quarter pound of marijuana. Police said Mays drove to the apartment complex with his wife and their 4-year-old child in the car to make the sale. During the meeting, investigators said the suspects pulled firearms, fired multiple rounds, and fled. Police also said Spivey and McGee had a history of committing robberies together. McGee is scheduled to appear in court on June 4, while Spivey is set for June 24.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
