PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 17-year-old boy was killed Sunday evening in Parkland after investigators said he was robbed and shot by multiple suspects who drove up to him in a vehicle.

KING 5 reported that Pierce County sheriff’s deputies were called around 7:13 p.m. to the 10200 block of South Sheridan Avenue for reports of a seriously wounded person. Medical responders performed CPR, but the victim died at the scene.

Authorities said the victim suffered a gunshot wound. Investigators initially reported that he was 16, but later said he was 17 years old.

According to Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy Carly Cappetto, the boy was walking with his 16-year-old girlfriend when a vehicle drove up and caught them by surprise. Cappetto said the occupant robbed the boy of some jewelry and then shot him.

The victim’s girlfriend told KING 5 that she saw four people inside a red four-door car she did not recognize. She said the suspects took the boy’s necklace and then shot him. Investigators have not confirmed those suspect details or released a public description.

Authorities said multiple suspects remain outstanding. Investigators also asked residents within a 3-mile radius to provide any surveillance video or footage that could help the case.

Cappetto described the slain teen as “a true victim” and warned community members not to approach vehicles they do not know while detectives work to identify the people involved.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
