LOS ANGELES, CA — Authorities are searching for 5-year-old Daleyza Fregoso after officers found a woman’s body inside a West Adams home and identified the child’s father, Ruben Fregoso, 40, as a person of interest in the killing.
Los Angeles police said officers discovered the woman’s body Monday inside a residence in the 2600 block of South Alsace Avenue. Investigators said a preliminary inquiry showed she died as a result of violence, though officials did not publicly disclose more specific details about how she was killed.
The woman’s identity had not been released. Police said Ruben Fregoso allegedly fled with the couple’s daughter after the killing and made statements suggesting he intended to leave the country.
The child and her father were last seen Sunday around 4 a.m. near Ferndale Street and Alsace Avenue, according to the Amber Alert. Investigators initially said they were traveling in a white 2019 Land Rover Discovery, but authorities later said the SUV had been found at a shopping center near the U.S.-Mexico border.
In a report from the Los Angeles Times, San Diego police Officer S. Foster said a security guard located the vehicle shortly before 9:15 p.m. Monday at 4575 Camino De La Plaza in San Ysidro.
Daleyza is described as 3 feet tall and 45 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Ruben Fregoso is described as about 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 200 pounds, also with black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information about Daleyza’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department at 323-786-5100.
