FLINT, MI — Flint rapper Cliff Mac and co-defendant Andres Vela have both been sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted them in the 2021 shooting death of Devaroe Davis.

The sentences follow June convictions that prosecutors said capped a case tied to a wider series of violent acts in and around Flint. Davis was killed on Aug. 17, 2021, while sitting in a car parked outside the Eagle Ridge Square apartment complex.

According to WNEM, Cliff Mac, whose legal name is Clifton Eugene Terry III, and Vela were each sentenced to life after being found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder. The outlet reported Terry was also convicted of assault with intent to murder, six felony firearm counts, three counts of discharging a firearm from a vehicle causing serious impairment and two counts of first-degree premeditated murder, while Vela was convicted on murder and multiple gun-related charges as well.

WNEM reported Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton accused Terry of organizing, financing and participating in a series of violent crimes and shootings in the Flint area. A third defendant, Isiah Claiborne, received a minimum sentence of 46 months on gun charges with credit for time served, while several more serious counts against him ended in a mistrial and remain scheduled for further court proceedings in September.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
