DUXBURY, MA — Prosecutors have dropped three strangulation charges against Lindsay Clancy ahead of her upcoming murder trial, but she still faces three murder counts in the deaths of her three children.

According to recent reporting summarized by outlets including Boston 25 News and AOL’s syndicated version of the WPRI report, prosecutors said the strangulation counts were redundant because the murder charges already cover the allegation that Clancy killed the children by strangling them.

Clancy is accused in the January 2023 deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in the family’s Duxbury home. Court coverage has said she has pleaded not guilty and is expected to pursue an insanity defense tied to postpartum psychosis and other mental health claims.

Recent pretrial reporting has also said Clancy, who was left paralyzed after a suicide attempt following the children’s deaths, is expected to appear in court in a wheelchair as the long-delayed trial begins later this month.

The dropped counts reduce duplication in the indictment, but they do not lessen the severity of the case. The central homicide prosecution remains intact as one of the most watched and emotionally charged murder trials in Massachusetts.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
