BRONX, NY — Julia Anderson, 39, was shot to death just before midnight Monday outside her Jeep near Murdock and Nereid avenues in Wakefield, and police say the man later charged in the killing is her uncle, 58-year-old Michael Foster.
According to ABC7 New York, FOX 5 New York and CBS New York, Foster was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder, manslaughter and 10 counts of criminal possession of a weapon after investigators tied him to the fatal shooting.
Police said Anderson had just finished work and was heading home when she was attacked near 4385 Murdock Ave. Reports from local outlets said she either had just gotten into or was approaching her black Jeep Grand Cherokee when shots were fired through the passenger-side side of the vehicle. She suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Two shell casings were recovered at the scene.
Anderson worked as an aide caring for people with developmental disabilities, and family members said she had spent more than a decade doing that work. Her mother told reporters she knew something was wrong when Anderson did not make it home as expected. Local reporting also said Anderson was about a month away from turning 40 and lived in Mount Vernon less than a mile from where she was killed.
ABC7 reported police believe the shooting may have grown out of a family dispute involving the inheritance of a home, though officials have not publicly laid out a motive in detail. CBS New York reported investigators do not believe the shooting was a robbery, and News 12 said Anderson’s family identified Foster as her uncle.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
