SAGINAW, MI — A Saginaw mother is publicly pleading for justice after her 19-year-old son, Myles A. Slay, was shot to death in April, and the case has now progressed to a murder warrant for the teenage suspect prosecutors say is a danger to the community.
According to MLive, prosecutors alleged the 19-year-old suspect in Slay’s killing “without question” presents a danger to the community. Earlier reporting from Mid-Michigan NOW, WNEM, and WSGW shows the case began with an April 10 homicide on the city’s west side and that police initially said the suspect fled the scene.
Police said the shooting happened at about 11:40 p.m. on April 10 at a home in the 200 block of South Porter Street. Officers responding to the scene found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Slay was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators identified the suspect early on as a 19-year-old Saginaw man. By the time of the later MLive report, a warrant had been issued in the case and the suspect had been arraigned in late June, marking a significant turn in a homicide that left Slay’s family waiting months for visible movement.
Anyone with information about the shooting is still urged to contact the Saginaw Police Department at 989-759-1245 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-5245.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
