TAMPA, FL — A 29-year-old woman has been arrested in the death of her girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter after investigators said the child was brought to a hospital with several inflicted injuries and later died.

The girl, identified as Ka’mora Figgs, died on April 25, 2026, after she was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital. The Medical Examiner later ruled her death a homicide.

According to reporting by WFLA and Tampa Bay 28, investigators said Ka’mora was in the care of Grace Wingate when the fatal injuries were inflicted at an apartment on Quails Nest Drive in Brandon.

Hillsborough County deputies obtained an arrest warrant on July 16 charging Wingate with child neglect causing great bodily harm, aggravated child abuse, and first-degree murder while engaged in aggravated child abuse. Hillsborough State Attorney Susan Lopez said Wingate is accused of beating her girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter to death.

Authorities said Wingate was 29 at the time of her arrest. Sheriff Chad Chronister called the case heartbreaking and disturbing, and officials have said the investigation remains ongoing.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
