BRONX, NY — A routine traffic stop in the Bronx turned into a murder arrest Monday after police said officers pulled over a 47-year-old driver, found drugs in his vehicle and linked him to a fatal shooting earlier that morning in Van Nest.
Trojan Hart, 50, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in front of 672 Sagamore St. just after 6 a.m. on August 3, 2026, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
According to reporting by PIX11 and News 12 Bronx, police identified the suspect as Jose Kuilan, 47. Investigators said Kuilan was stopped after allegedly making a right turn onto Hunt Avenue without signaling, and officers then found narcotics in the car before connecting him to Hart’s killing.
Kuilan was charged with murder, manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance and failing to use signal lights, authorities said. Police have not publicly described a motive or detailed the evidence they used to tie him to the shooting.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
