FREEPORT, FL — Isabelle Johnson, the 38-year-old woman charged in the death of 43-year-old Jason Christopher Coulthart, is back in custody after investigators say a 45-day search ended with her arrest at a home in Cottondale.

According to WEAR and People, Johnson was taken into custody by a U.S. Marshals Task Force on Aug. 13 after Walton County investigators tracked her communications and located her in Jackson County. Authorities say she was extradited back to Walton County and is being held without bond, with additional charges possible.

The case began after Coulthart was reported missing to Niceville police on May 24 after he was last seen leaving the College Condominiums on East College Boulevard. Investigators later developed information pointing to a property off Sunset Lane in Freeport, where a June 25 search warrant led to the discovery of human remains buried in a shallow grave. DNA testing later confirmed the remains were Coulthart’s.

People reported that an arrest report said the grave had been covered with concrete and a black Cadillac was parked over it, while a large white zip tie was found around Coulthart’s neck. Investigators have also said Johnson used multiple aliases and moved from place to place while avoiding arrest.

Since the homicide investigation began, five other people have been arrested in connection with the case. Investigators allege some helped Johnson by providing shelter, transportation, a cellphone, supplies and places to stay, while also misleading deputies about where she was hiding.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
