CLOVIS, CA — A man and woman accused of killing 37-year-old Geoffrey Bernardi after an attack near a canal in Clovis have been arrested in Mexico and extradited to California to face homicide charges.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Tulare resident Antonio Garcia, 40, and Dinuba resident Misty Gomez, 32, were arrested Aug. 19 and returned to California in the December 2025 killing.

Police said Bernardi was beaten near the canal by Barstow and Peach on Dec. 18, 2025, then died at a hospital two days later. Investigators said they uncovered evidence and communications tying Garcia and Gomez to the killing, and said Gomez had been Bernardi’s girlfriend while also being married to Garcia.

Authorities said the pair fled to Mexico and hid there for months before they were taken into custody. They were brought back to California and were being taken to the Fresno County jail to face homicide charges.

Police also said Gomez left the country with two young children from past relationships who had been missing from Dinuba since April and are now being reunited with family.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
