SEWICKLEY TOWNSHIP, PA — A Westmoreland County man is charged with homicide after investigators say he beat his mother to death on the front porch of her home, then ran into a nearby wooded area before state police took him into custody Sunday evening.
Troopers were called to a home on Herminie West Newton Road in Sewickley Township at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday after a woman found her mother unresponsive and badly injured on the porch and called 911. The victim, later identified as Christin E. Hamilton, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a report by WPXI, the woman who called 911 told police she believed her brother, Jakob Michael Korber, was responsible and said he had a violent past and had recently threatened people living in the home.
Investigators said surveillance video captured Korber leaving the house, arguing with Hamilton, and then attacking her on the porch for an extended period. Police said he used his hands, feet, and multiple objects during the assault before fleeing into the woods.
State police later issued a public search notice, and by 6:54 p.m. Sunday, Korber had been taken into custody without incident. The criminal complaint says he admitted assaulting his mother and told investigators that if she was dead, he caused it. He is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison and was denied bail. A motive has not been made public.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
