NEW YORK, NY — Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old Bank of America executive, was fatally stabbed near Times Square on Monday afternoon in what police described as a random attack that also left a 68-year-old man wounded before officers shot and killed the suspect.

According to KENS5 and WPXI, the stabbing happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. in the Times Square area, where police said the attacker moved from one victim to the next within seconds and there was no evidence the violence was tied to terrorism.

Police identified the suspect as Pamela Cisneros, 49, of Queens. Authorities said she pulled two knives from a shopping bag, stabbed the older man in the abdomen, then attacked Piacenti, who was also stabbed in the abdomen and later died at a hospital.

Investigators said officers confronted Cisneros nearby and repeatedly ordered her to drop the knives. After a stun gun failed to stop her and she advanced toward officers while still armed, police opened fire and killed her.

Piacenti lived in Chester, New Jersey, and was identified by bank officials as a vice president. Bank of America said it was shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of its colleague, while reports also identified Piacenti as a Fordham Law School graduate who finished in 2021 alongside her husband, Frank Piacenti.

The surviving victim was hospitalized, and police had not publicly explained a motive as of Tuesday. The attack unfolded in one of the busiest and most heavily policed parts of Manhattan, just steps from a police station and the area known for the city's New Year's Eve ball drop.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
