COLUMBIA COUNTY, FL — A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder after his girlfriend, 21-year-old Nicole Lopez, was found dead at a home on NW Moore Road early Sept. 10.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office identified the defendant as Isaiah Campbell. According to News4JAX’s reporting on the investigation, deputies described Lopez’s death as the county’s second domestic violence-related death in roughly 12 hours.

Deputies arrived at approximately 4:19 a.m. Thursday after a 911 call reporting a dead woman. Campbell, whom authorities identified as the caller and Lopez’s boyfriend, let them into the home.

Campbell told dispatchers that Lopez had fallen and hit her head during a physical altercation and was no longer breathing. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead shortly after deputies arrived.

Detectives subsequently determined that Lopez had suffered blunt-force injuries and stab wounds during an altercation with Campbell earlier that night, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies detained Campbell at the scene. Detectives interviewed him before his arrest, and he was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on a murder charge. A judge ordered him held without bond.

Separate Killing Reported the Previous Afternoon

The sheriff’s office was also investigating a separate fatal shooting reported at approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9. Deputies responding to a well-being check at a Columbia County apartment made several announcements, entered through an unlocked door and found 16-year-old Ashia Moore on the floor with a gunshot wound.

Moore, who was seven months pregnant, died from her injuries. The sheriff’s office said she had been visiting friends at the apartment before the killing.

Her 17-year-old boyfriend was identified as a person of interest and arrested on a charge of tampering with evidence. The report did not identify a murder charge against him. That investigation is separate from the case against Campbell.
