SAN ANTONIO, TX — A 70-year-old man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of Norma Linda Villarreal, 62, inside a home on the city’s South Side.

Ramon Vasquez Rodriguez was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center with bond set at $250,000, KSAT reported, citing San Antonio police and Bexar County court records. The murder charge is a first-degree felony.

Officers responded to a home in the 8500 block of South Presa Street around 8 p.m. Saturday, September 12. A preliminary police report said Rodriguez had contacted authorities about “someone bothering him.”

When officers spoke with Rodriguez at the home, he told them he had shot the woman inside, according to the preliminary report. Police arrested him.

Villarreal received treatment for her injuries but died at the scene. Although police described the incident as a fatal shooting, her official cause and manner of death were not available in the reporting.

The relationship between Rodriguez and Villarreal remains unclear. The report did not establish a motive, and the complaint about someone bothering him does not explain what led to the shooting.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
