HOUMA, LA — A 47-year-old man identified as a person of interest has been taken into custody in an investigation into stabbings that left at least four people dead and a child critically injured in Houma.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet confirmed that Kaegan Jude Solet, of Houma, was in custody in connection with the Ashland Drive investigation, WWL Radio reported in a September 13 update. The announcement followed an earlier public appeal to locate him.

Deputies responded to the 200 block of Ashland Drive after a child was stabbed and severely injured. A search of nearby homes led them to four people who had been stabbed to death, according to the sheriff’s office account reported by WWL.

The child was flown to a hospital and was in critical condition in WWL’s earlier report. Investigators also searched the area for any additional stabbing victims.

The custody update did not identify the victims, explain their relationships to one another or to Solet, or specify charges against him in the current investigation. It continued to describe him as a person of interest.

Solet previously faced an attempted second-degree murder charge involving a woman stabbed at Houma’s Red Carpet Inn in December 2019. That case ended in an acquittal: a jury found him not guilty in November 2023 after deliberating for nearly two hours, according to the Houma Courier-Thibodaux Daily Comet’s trial coverage. The earlier case did not result in a conviction.

Soignet asked for patience while detectives continued investigating the Ashland Drive incidents. The sheriff’s office said additional information would be released as it became available.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
