FLEMINGTON, FL — A woman faces a murder charge after an overnight visit to a Marion County couple’s home ended with the man fatally stabbed and the woman injured while disarming their guest.

Amy Hogg, 33, of Crescent City, was arrested Sept. 19 on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to WFTV’s report citing the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded around 3:15 a.m. to a residence on West Highway 318 near Flemington.

Investigators said Hogg was a family friend who arrived to stay with the couple Friday evening. The group drank alcohol, and Hogg became intoxicated before arguing with the female resident, according to the sheriff’s office.

Hogg pushed the woman during the dispute, and the male resident intervened to separate them, deputies said. A short time later, the woman heard Hogg and the man shouting at each other.

The woman called 911 and found the man on the floor, bleeding and struggling to breathe. Investigators said Hogg repeatedly stabbed him while the woman spoke with dispatchers and mocked her requests for help.

The woman eventually took the weapon away from Hogg, suffering a stab wound while doing so, according to the sheriff’s office. Emergency responders treated her injuries.

Deputies found the man with multiple stab wounds and provided aid until Marion County Fire Rescue arrived. He died at the home.

Major Crimes Detective Henrik Osthed responded to investigate the homicide. Deputies arrested Hogg at the scene and took her to a local hospital for medical treatment.

At the time of WFTV’s report, Hogg remained in hospital custody without bond. Sheriff’s officials said she would be transferred to the Marion County Jail after receiving medical clearance.
