SANTA CLARITA, CA — Dozens of people gathered Sunday to remember Christopher Claunch, a 59-year-old Santa Clarita native killed while waiting in an In-N-Out drive-thru in Idaho, with the restaurant chain catering his memorial.

Claunch was one of three people killed in the Aug. 1, 2026, mass shooting at a newly opened In-N-Out in Twin Falls, KTLA reported. Seven other people were injured.

His sister, Kimberly Castaneda, told the station that Claunch grew up in Canyon Country, a community in Santa Clarita, before spending years living in Idaho. His family said he was working at a sober living home and had built a fulfilling life before his death.

Family and other mourners gathered in Santa Clarita on Sept. 27. In-N-Out contacted the family to ask how the company could help and provided food for the memorial.

“It’s great,” Castaneda told KTLA. “I love that people came out.”

KTLA identified the gunman as 24-year-old Chad Williams and reported that authorities said he took his own life after opening fire. Claunch was in the drive-thru when he was shot.

A photograph accompanying the report also showed an armed citizen who drew his weapon on the shooting suspect. The caption attributed his identification as Jordan Salinas to the Idaho Statesman.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
