WELLS BRANCH, TX — Two women found shot to death inside a North Travis County apartment were victims of a double homicide, not the murder-suicide initially suspected, and a Mississippi man has been charged with capital murder.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office identified the women as Anecia Kay Thacker, 37, and Lamonica Webb, 32, both of Austin. In a September 25 announcement, the agency said autopsy findings, ballistic analysis and evidence recovered from the apartment led detectives to revise their assessment and arrest c, 24, of Vicksburg, Mississippi.
The investigation began around 8:45 a.m. September 23 at an apartment complex in the 3400 block of Shoreline Drive. A property manager serving a writ found a unit’s door partly open. He announced himself, received no response and pushed the door open, according to the sheriff’s office. After seeing a body, he immediately called 911.
Deputies discovered Thacker and Webb dead with gunshot wounds. At a news conference that Wednesday, sheriff’s spokesperson Kristen Dark said investigators were considering a possible murder-suicide but had not excluded other explanations.
After obtaining a search warrant, detectives and crime-scene specialists examined the apartment more thoroughly. The sheriff’s office said they found evidence inconsistent with the initial theory. On Thursday, September 24, investigators compared the scene evidence with autopsy and ballistic results and determined that both deaths were homicides.
Detectives subsequently identified Robinson as a person of interest and investigated his whereabouts. They concluded he had likely been in the apartment when the shootings occurred, according to the agency.
Deputies located Robinson after identifying his vehicle and residence. Investigators then gathered further evidence that the sheriff’s office said linked him to the shootings and established his presence inside the apartment. He was taken into custody September 25 on a capital murder charge.
Sheriff Sally Hernandez credited crime-scene specialists with carefully processing the evidence and detectives with connecting it to a suspect. The announcement did not detail the specific forensic findings that overturned the initial theory or identify the additional evidence against Robinson.
Anyone with information about the incident or the people involved is asked to call the Travis County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 512-854-1444.
