HOUSTON, TX — Jose Orozco’s boyfriend has been charged with murder after Orozco was found stabbed to death inside a north Harris County home during a welfare check.

Jaime Castillo, 20, faces the charge in a case investigators are treating as intimate-partner violence, FOX 26 reported, citing Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Deputies found Orozco at a home in the 4400 block of Sandydale Lane, near John F. Kennedy Boulevard in the Aldine area, on Monday night, October 5.

An October 8 KVUE report described Orozco as having been killed days before his 23rd birthday and said his family was sharing memories of him. That differs from the age of 23 given in earlier FOX 26 and ABC13 reports citing authorities.

According to the sheriff’s office account reported by ABC13, a caller in Colorado told police earlier that evening that his brother in the Houston area had said he stabbed his partner. Deputies conducting the welfare check found Orozco dead with multiple stab wounds.

Investigators connected the reports and searched for Castillo. The sheriff’s office said officers contacted him, but he repeatedly supplied an incorrect location.

While detectives were traveling to the scene, Houston police confirmed they had arrested Castillo at 4303 Charriton Drive. He was taken to the sheriff’s homicide building for questioning, then transferred to the Harris County Jail after the district attorney’s office accepted a murder charge.

Relatives of both men told investigators the couple had dated for several months to a year. The reporting reviewed did not identify a motive or a next court date.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
