ATLANTA, GA — Three people have been arrested in the August shooting death of Tarris Caswell, a 33-year-old music producer and DJ killed during a robbery.
According to WSB-TV, police say Caswell and a friend were lured to an apartment complex on McDaniel Street believing they were picking up two men to take to a music session they had been invited to attend.
Investigators arrested Timardre Johnson, 20, Kevon McFasion, 17, and a 16-year-old whose name was not included in the report. Each faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Caswell’s friend, Ricky Cooper, told the station that two teenage acquaintances in the backseat pulled guns and demanded their jewelry and wallets as he and Caswell got into the car. Cooper said guns were pointed at his head as the car began backing up.
As Caswell started driving, Cooper said, he raised a hand and appealed to the gunmen to stop. A shot followed almost immediately.
Cooper said Caswell slumped over the steering wheel and the vehicle accelerated into another car. Cooper got out and ran, but one of the gunmen caught up with him. He said his Rolex watch, valued at $30,000, was stolen.
The report does not identify which suspect allegedly fired the shot or explain the role investigators attribute to each of the three people charged.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
