MOBILE, AL — A 47-year-old Mobile man faces two counts of capital murder after two women were found dead inside a Carolina Court home on Oct. 12.

Thomas Steele was detained at the scene, according to WKRG’s reporting. In an Oct. 13 update, the station reported that court documents allege a chainsaw was used to decapitate the women and list two counts of capital murder involving two or more people.

Officers responded to the 2400 block of Carolina Court in West Mobile shortly after 1:30 p.m. Monday for a death investigation. They found both women dead inside the home.

Police identified the victims as Steele’s family members and alleged that he intentionally caused their deaths with a bladed instrument. The initial police release described two murder charges; WKRG’s subsequent court-document update identified the charges as capital murder.

The women’s names were being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The report did not specify their exact relationships to Steele or a suspected motive.
