TUCSON, AZ — Authorities report that DNA from an unidentified person was discovered at the Tucson property where Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Jan. 31.
“DNA other than Nancy Guthrie’s and those in close contact to her has been collected from the property,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) said in a statement to People magazine on Feb. 13. “Investigators are working to identify who it belongs to. We are not disclosing where that DNA was located.”
PCSD stated it is not ruling out any individuals or possibilities at this time, as reported by KGUN 9. The 84-year-old mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie was reported missing around noon Feb. 1 after relatives could not find her at her home.
The sheriff’s department also addressed reports regarding physical evidence found during the search. Authorities said several gloves were recovered during the investigation, but none were found inside the residence or on the property.
The closest gloves were discovered about two miles from the home, according to the sheriff’s department. All collected evidence is currently undergoing laboratory analysis.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously stated that blood matching Guthrie’s DNA was found on the exterior porch of the home. Her whereabouts remain unknown nearly two weeks after her disappearance.
The FBI has joined the search and is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or an arrest. The agency recently released surveillance footage from the morning of the disappearance.
The video shows a masked and armed person appearing to tamper with a Nest camera at the front door of the residence. The FBI’s Phoenix office described the suspect as a man between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build.
The suspect was seen wearing a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack, according to a Feb. 12 post on X by the FBI. Savannah Guthrie shared the images on social media and asked the public to help identify the person in the footage.
Ransom notes related to the case were reportedly sent to several media outlets. The FBI is investigating the notes but stated there has been no known communication between any kidnappers and the Guthrie family.
PCSD continues to coordinate with federal authorities. Forensic teams are prioritizing the analysis of gloves and other items recovered near the scene.
Guthrie was last seen on the night of Jan. 31. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI, tips.fbi.gov, or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
