REDWOOD CITY, CA — A Florida woman has been sentenced to four years in state prison after being convicted in the death of an online influencer known for her resemblance to reality television star Kim Kardashian following an illegal cosmetic procedure in a California hotel room.
According to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, Vivian Gomez was sentenced after a jury found her guilty of felony involuntary manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license resulting in death.
Prosecutors said Gomez traveled from Florida to California in April 2023 to perform unauthorized gluteal silicone injections on Christina Ashten Gourkani, who had built a substantial online following as a Kim Kardashian look-alike and OnlyFans model.
According to the San Mateo Daily Journal, the procedure took place on April 19, 2023, inside a room at the Burlingame Marriott Hotel. Authorities said Gourkani began feeling ill shortly after receiving the injections, prompting her fiancé to call 911.
According to prosecutors, Gourkani was transported to Mills-Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame, where she died the following day. The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said her death was caused by respiratory failure and a pulmonary embolism linked to the illegal cosmetic procedure.
The New York Post reported that Gomez, identified as Vivian Alexandra Gomez, was convicted by a San Mateo County jury in March after prosecutors presented evidence that she had performed multiple unlicensed silicone injections on Gourkani.
During sentencing proceedings, Gomez told the court she does not intend to challenge the verdict. According to the San Mateo Daily Journal, Gomez said she wants to “just go to prison and do her time.”
Authorities said Gomez was not licensed to practice medicine and should not have been performing the injections. The district attorney’s office said the jury found that her actions directly contributed to Gourkani’s death.
Gourkani, who was widely known online for her resemblance to Kardashian, was 34 years old at the time of her death, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. The New York Post reported that the cosmetic procedure was intended to enhance her appearance through what prosecutors described as an illegal Brazilian butt lift involving silicone injections.
According to the district attorney’s office, a restitution hearing in the case is scheduled for July 20.
