HOUSTON, TX — A Texas funeral home worker is behind bars for allegedly mutilating the corpse of a sex offender.
According to CBS affiliate KIAH, 34-year-old Amber Paige Laudermilk was charged with a felony count of abuse of a corpse.
Police say Laudermilk allegedly mutilated the corpse of Charles Roy Rodriguez, 58, and used a scalpel to cut off his penis.
Rodriguez, a registered sex offender, received 10 years of deferred adjudication after being charged with sexual assault in 2001. He died of natural causes in January at a Houston hospital.
KRIV reports Laudermilk stabbed Rodriguez’s genitals twice, then castrated him. After that, Laudermilk “stuffed” the penis in his mouth, according to court records.
Laudermilk allegedly told an employee who witnessed the incident, “You didn’t see anything,” court documents said.
“We have the utmost empathy for anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault or is the family or friend of someone who has been the victim of a sexual assault,” Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen said in a statement. “The facts clearly indicate she was angry, and I hope after this is resolved in the courts, she gets the help she needs.”
She is currently booked into the Harris County Jail.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
