UNIVERSAL CITY, TX — Universal City police arrested two teenagers who allegedly used online dating applications to lure male victims to a park before violently robbing them on May 25.

Alyssa Canul, 17, and her boyfriend, Joseph Anthony Aguilar Campos, 18, each face two counts of aggravated robbery. Universal City police arrested Aguilar Campos on Tuesday, May 26, and arrested Canul on Wednesday, May 27.

Canul also faces a potential charge of tampering with physical evidence. Both suspects live at the Villa Mesa apartments in Universal City.

According to a Universal City Police Department press release and public Bexar County arrest records, the couple used a dating application to arrange meetings with men at a park bench.

In the first incident, Canul convinced a male victim to meet her at the bench, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by KSAT. Aguilar Campos then appeared, struck the victim with a handgun and robbed him.

The second incident occurred later that day at the same location. Canul met a 15-year-old boy at the bench and convinced him to walk back to her apartment complex.

When the boy arrived at the apartment property, Aguilar Campos stepped out from nearby bushes and began loading a handgun, the affidavit states. The boy attempted to run away from the area.

Aguilar Campos shot the 15-year-old four times as the boy fled, according to the affidavit. The wounded teenager ran to a nearby coffee shop, where bystanders called 911.

Paramedics transported the boy to a hospital. Authorities said the teenager survived the shooting and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Detectives later obtained a recording of a telephone call between the two suspects while they were under investigation. On the call, Canul tells Aguilar Campos that she disposed of the handgun used in the two robberies, according to the affidavit.

Officers booked both teenagers into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center in San Antonio, where they remain in custody.

Jail records show a judge set Canul’s combined bond at $250,000. The judge set the combined bond for Aguilar Campos at $300,000.
