Investigators say the body of an Ohio woman who disappeared near an Alabama state park in October was discovered over the weekend.
According to crimeonline.com, a hunter found the body on Saturday morning, November 30, 2024, about five miles northeast of Cheaha State Park.
The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the body found is that of 30-year-old Vendula “Wendy” Rose, an Ohio woman who traveled to Alabama on September 20 for a hiking trip.
Rose, who was reported missing on October 4 after failing to return to work, had left behind her car near the Pinhoti Trailhead in Cheaha State Park. The vehicle was discovered in the aforementioned area the following day.
Using GPS data from the car, traffic cameras, and license plate readers, authorities tracked Rose’s movements. On September 23, her car was recorded traveling to South Carolina, where it arrived in the early morning of September 24. Later that evening, she returned to Cleburne County and was seen on surveillance video making a purchase in Oxford, leaving the store alone.
From Oxford, Rose drove to the Pinhoti Trailhead, where her car was later found. Despite extensive searches by multiple agencies covering nearly 40 miles of trails, no further trace of her was discovered.
On October 7, investigators obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and uncovered “multiple notes” that appeared unusual for Rose unless she was experiencing a mental health crisis. They also found a weapon magazine and a box of ammunition, with seven rounds missing. No additional evidence has been located.
The sheriff’s department plans to release a statement about the discovery in the coming days.
“We ask that you continue to keep this family in your thoughts and prayers,” the sheriff’s department said.
