A Pennsylvania woman who disappeared earlier this week after reportedly falling into a sinkhole was found dead on Friday.

According to WPXI, 64-year-old Elizabeth Pollard was found dead in the early morning hours of Friday, December 6, days after her disappearance in Union Township.

At approximately 2:50 a.m. on Monday, troopers discovered Pollard’s vehicle parked behind a restaurant in Union Township. Inside the car was Pollard’s five-year-old granddaughter, who was unharmed.

About 15 to 20 feet away, they identified a newly-formed sinkhole, which was located above an abandoned mine.

Over the past four days, search crews worked tirelessly to reach the area where they believed Pollard had fallen. However, the mine structure underground was so fragile that they had to alter their strategy.

Trooper Steve Limani reported that Pollard’s body was found at 11:05 a.m., approximately 12 feet southwest of the original sinkhole. Authorities believe she may have rolled or shifted after hitting the bottom.

“We are a group of old coal mining towns, and Marguerite is one of them. The people of Unity Township are deeply saddened today,” Unity Township supervisor Mike O’Barto told WPXI.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
