SAN ANTONIO, TX — A 2-year-old girl who became the focus of an Amber Alert late Sunday was found unresponsive in a brushy, water-filled area on the city’s Northwest Side and was later pronounced dead.

According to KENS 5 and KSAT, Aryana Trevino Martinez was reported missing around 8 p.m. Sunday from the 4700 block of Allegheny Drive after relatives told San Antonio police she had wandered away from home, prompting a large search and the eventual statewide alert.

Police said officers set up a search quadrant and deployed multiple resources before Aryana was found unresponsive around 12:01 a.m. Monday near where she was last seen. KSAT reported an investigator said she was located in an overgrown creek area behind Belle Ellen, and authorities later canceled the Amber Alert around 3 a.m.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office said Aryana was pronounced dead shortly after 12:10 a.m. Monday. Investigators said video captured the toddler walking alone in an alley before her death, and police are seeking additional footage as they work to determine whether she was with anyone else and how she ended up in the water.

Her cause and manner of death remain under investigation.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
