JOSEPHINE COUNTY, OR — A missing Nevada man was found buried at an Oregon property two days after his brother and nephew were discovered dead inside a home there.

Andrew Forrest Odom, 67, was identified after investigators recovered his remains October 8, according to an Oregon State Police release. OregonLive reported that the discovery followed gunfire during detectives’ investigation into his disappearance.

Odom, of Incline Village, traveled from Carson City to Medford on September 21. His last known whereabouts were in Josephine County on September 22. He was reported missing to Medford police October 1.

Suspicious circumstances prompted a transfer to state police and activation of the Josephine County Major Crime Team.

On October 6, detectives contacted someone in the 10000 block of Williams Highway in rural Josephine County. Police said that person ran into a residence and fired at detectives. Tactical personnel from Grants Pass police and the county sheriff’s office responded.

Officers subsequently found Rick Odom, 73, and his son, Spencer Odom, 40, dead inside with apparent gunshot wounds. Rick was Andrew’s brother. State police said Spencer died from a self-inflicted gunshot; Medford police led the shooting investigation.

Detectives and the state police crime lab found Andrew’s buried remains two days later. The major crime team includes state police, Grants Pass police, the sheriff’s office and the county district attorney’s office, with assistance from Medford police and the crime lab.

The October 9 release did not identify who fired at detectives, explain Rick’s shooting or disclose Andrew’s cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
