NEW YORK, NY — A New York private equity executive is behind bars accused of violently raping and torturing several women in his apartment.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced last week the indictment of Ryan Hemphill, 43, for the alleged predatory sexual assault of six women between October 2024 and March 2025 in his midtown apartment.

He is charged in an 116-count New York State Supreme Court indictment with 24 charges of Predatory Sexual Assault, as well as numerous counts of Rape in the First and Third Degrees, Facilitating a Sex Offense with a Controlled Substance, and Assault in the Second Degree.

He is also charged with Bribing a Witness, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and of Certain Ammunition Feeding Devices.

“We allege that Ryan Hemphill raped and violently assaulted six different women in his apartment in just five months,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Further, we allege that he threatened the women and used his position as an attorney to intimidate them and prevent them from reporting these crimes. This investigation is ongoing, and we have reason to believe there may be additional survivors.”

A spokesperson with NYPD said the details in this case are detail a disturbing, sustained, and calculated campaign of violence and cruelty that targeted vulnerable women.

According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, beginning on October 3, 2024, Hemphill subjected six women to multiple-hour ordeals of physical and sexual violence inside his midtown Manhattan apartment. He allegedly raped his victims often under threat of torture if they did not comply.

He forced or tricked them into ingesting various controlled substances that rendered them unconscious or significantly impaired. He slapped and punched them repeatedly and tied them up with handcuffs and other restraints.

In one alleged incident, one of the victims was left shackled to Hemphill’s bed for an extended period while she begged him to let her go.

Prosecutors say Hemphill allegedly tortured his victims with electricity, using a cattle prod meant for livestock and a shock collar that he forced some women to wear around their necks, including while he raped them.

He also allegedly tortured them psychologically by threatening them with guns and knives, urinating on them, and verbally humiliating and demeaning them.

Hemphill convinced some of the women to confide in him about the details of their past sexual traumas, and then deliberately reenacted those acts, according to investigators.

He allegedly recorded himself abusing the women on extensive cameras within his apartment.

Hemphill allegedly met many of the women on the websites Seeking.com (formerly known as Seeking Arrangements), SugarDaddy and SugarDaddyMeet, FetLife, and Craigslist, and offered them large sums of money in exchange for sex and companionship.

In many cases, he never paid them the agreed-upon amounts, and sometimes he paid them with fake money.

Hemphill allegedly threatened the women, often over text message, so they would not report the assaults.

These alleged threats included falsely claiming to have vast resources and connections to police and organized crime as well as using his role as an attorney to intimidate them and insisting they would be arrested instead.

In one alleged instance, based on evidence retrieved from the defendant’s cellphone, he drew up a contract in which he agreed to pay a woman $2,000 in exchange for dropping a complaint she had filed with the Manhattan Special Victims Squad. He also allegedly forced some victims to record videos in which they stated that they consented to being raped and tortured, then used those videos to convince the women that they would not be believed if they chose to come forward.

Hemphill was arrested on March 1, 2025. Upon executing a court-authorized search warrant at Hemphill’s apartment, investigators found high-capacity magazines and hundreds of bullets; a cattle prod; large amounts of drugs, including heroin, cocaine, amphetamines, and fentanyl; and numerous surveillance cameras and electronics for storage with videos of dozens of women, and more.

According to Hemphill’s website, he is a “successful” Private Equity and Venture Capital Executive based in New York City.

His firm helped manage a portfolio of industries that includes international real estate development projects, preventative care solutions for large US corporations, and more.

NBC News reported Hemphill pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.

In addition to calling the Office’s Special Victims Division, survivors of sexual assault can also access support 24 hours a day through the NYC Hope Hotline at 1-800-621-HOPE (4673).

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
