ONTARIO, CA — The big rig driver who triggered a fiery multi-vehicle crash on the 10 Freeway that killed three people has been sentenced to four years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

According to the Los Angeles Times, with matching case details also reported by CBS Los Angeles and ABC7, Jashanpreet Singh was sentenced after admitting guilt in June in the deadly October 2025 wreck in Ontario.

Reporting on the case said Singh was 21 at the time of the crash. Authorities said he failed to brake as traffic slowed on Interstate 10, sending his semi-truck into stopped or slowing vehicles and setting off a violent pileup involving multiple big rigs and passenger vehicles.

Three people were killed in the collision, and several others were injured. Video of the crash captured the semi plowing into traffic before flames engulfed part of the wreckage.

Earlier DUI-related allegations were not part of the final conviction after toxicology results showed no drugs or alcohol in Singh’s system, and the case ultimately proceeded on gross-negligence manslaughter charges. The sentence closes the criminal case, but the punishment is likely to draw scrutiny given the scale of the destruction and the lives lost in a matter of seconds.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
