NEW YORK, NY — A federal jury convicted brothers Oren, Alon and Tal Alexander on all counts for their roles in a sex trafficking operation that targeted women across the country for over a decade.
The 12-member jury, consisting of six men and six women, reached the verdict after three days of deliberation following a five-week trial in Brooklyn. The March 9 decision marks a fall for the Israeli-American brothers who were once prominent figures in the luxury real estate markets of Miami, New York and Aspen.
The defendants were found guilty of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion involving a woman in 2016. According to PEOPLE, the jury also convicted Alon and Tal Alexander of trafficking a minor in 2009.
Oren and Alon Alexander were convicted of aggravated sexual abuse and the sexual abuse of a physically incapacitated victim. Prosecutors said the two men forced a woman, Rhonda Stone, to perform sex acts after administering a drug or intoxicant in 2012.
The jury found Oren Alexander guilty of the sexual exploitation of a minor in 2009. Tal Alexander faced additional convictions for trafficking two other women in 2011 and 2014, as reported by NPR.
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said in a statement that the verdict cannot undo the abuse the victims endured but sends a message that the community wants to end sex trafficking. Clayton encouraged other victims of federal sex offenses to contact law enforcement.
The brothers did not testify during the trial. They have remained in custody since their arrest during a 2024 predawn raid on their multimillion-dollar homes in Miami.
Defense attorneys argued during the trial that the accusers had financial motives. Howard Srebnick, representing Alon Alexander, previously told PEOPLE that the civil lawsuits against the brothers were unsupported accusations by women seeking money.
Srebnick said his client passed a polygraph test and denied drugging any woman. Defense attorneys Joel Denaro and Edward O’Donnell said the allegations were part of a campaign by personal injury lawyers to solicit clients through social media.
Prosecutors alleged the brothers began their criminal activity in high school and grew bolder over time. The government presented evidence that the men videotaped encounters without consent and transported women to Mexico and the Hamptons for unlawful sexual activity.
The brothers will remain at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn while awaiting sentencing. The court has scheduled the sentencing hearing for Aug. 6.
The defendants face a maximum sentence of life in prison. In addition to the federal convictions, Oren and Alon Alexander face separate sexual battery charges in Florida. They are also named in dozens of pending civil lawsuits.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
