Pleasant Hills Borough, PA (PPP)— A Monongahela man has been lodged in the Allegheny County Jail following an alleged sexual assault on a 14-year-old female victim in the presence of her brain-injured grandmother.

According to a criminal complaint filed in District Court, 48-year-old John Gourn, Jr. was at the residence of the victim’s grandmother when the victim arrived following a school trip. It was the first time in four months that the victim has seen her grandmother.

The complaint says that in the presence of her grandmother, Gourn sexually assaulted the victim while the grandmother was manually stimulating him.

During the time of the assault, Gourn completely disrobed, according to the complaint.

Eventually, after hiding in the bathroom, the victim threw a Bluetooth speaker at Gourn, striking him in the head. The victim then called her mother to tell her what happened, says the criminal complaint.

Police found Gourn being treated at a local hospital. He was interviewed and later arrested, according to the report.

Affidavit of Probable Cause

Your affiants Nelson Kirksey and William Good are law enforcement officers with the Allegheny County Police Department assigned to the General Investigations Unit. They are empowered to make arrests for criminal offenses enumerated within this document. The information contained in this affidavit was learned directly by us or was reported to us by other law enforcement and victim.

Your Affiants have been police officers for combined period of 10 years and are currently assigned to the Allegheny County Police General Investigations Unit. Your Affiants have attended and completed many training courses in reference to the investigation and prosecution of crimes enumerated in the PACS, Title 18, and Title 35. As patrol officers and criminal investigators your Affiants have conducted investigations and participated in the prosecution of criminal acts within the jurisdiction of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of PA.

During this investigation the victim was identified and interviewed. The victim’s identity was verified, and the biographic information was memorialized. The victim’s identity is being withheld for purposes of this affidavit, both to ensure their safety and to preserve the integrity of the investigation. The victim will be referred to “Jane Doe”. The victim and any witnesses will be available to testify at all material court proceedings.

On April 7, 2023, at 11:20pm the Pleasant Hills Police Department responded to a 911 call from the mother of a juvenile female (Janie Doe) who was at her grandmother’s house and told her mom that she had been touched inappropriately by an unknown male there. The address of this call was ████████████. The mother also reported that Jane Doe had threw something at the male and the male was bleeding. Responding officers had the male evaluated at transported the nearest medical facility. Jane Doe was transported to the Pleasant Hills Police station and told the responding officers that had touched her inappropriately. Pleasant Hill PD detained the male at the hospital. At that time Pleasant Hills PD contacted the Allegheny County Police General Investigations Unit. Detective Good and I, Detective Kirksey Were dispatched to the Pleasant Hills Police station to interview the victim.

Jane Doe’s mother arrived at the police station and Jane Doe requested that she sit in on the interview. Jane Doe’s mother explained that her mother, ███████ had suffered a traumatic brain injury around ten years ago and this was the first time that Jane Doe had seen her in four months. Jane Doe is a 14-year-old 7th grader who is attending cyber-school at this time. Jane Doe told detectives that she went to her grandmother’s house from a trip that she was on. I asked Jane Doe about the layout of the apartment and she explained that it was a studio type of apartment with a bed that flips up into the wall. When the bed is flipped out it is very close to the couch. When Jane Doe got to her grandmother’s apartment that was a male there that she only knew as John or JR. Jane Doe had never met this male before. Jane Doe got to the apartment around 4pm. Jane Doe stated that she could tell that John had been drinking and kept making drinks out of a big plastic bottle of vodka after she got there. John even offered her some of the vodka, but she declined. Around 6pm Jane Doe said that John started to bother her by commenting on her breast size. John asked about the shape of her nipples and asked to see her breasts. At one point Jane Doe said that while she was sitting on the bed John put both of his hands on both of her breasts and kissed one of her breasts. Sometime later John and her grandmother were sitting on the couch and Jane Doe could see John’s erect penis and her grandmother manually stimulating him. Jane Doe said that John was making comments such as he wanted Jane Doe and the grandmother to give him oral sex at the same time and he could make both orgasm. Jane Doe said that after this happened, she just laid in the bed with the covers over her. Jane Doe said that John kept pulling the covers off her and finally got them off and put his face in between her thighs while she was wearing sweatpants. Jane Doe said that she pushed his head away and told him to stop. After this incident Jane Doe said that she retreated to the bathroom and stayed on the phone with one of her friends. When she opened the door a little while later Jane Doe saw that John was completely naked. Jane Doe came out to grab something and she said that John grabbed her and bit her butt over her clothes. After this Jane Doe said that John continued to make comments of a sexual nature towards her. Jane Doe got angry and threw a small Bluetooth speaker at John and it struck him in the head. Jane Doe then called her mother and told her what happened. I asked Jane Doe where her grandmother was while this was happening and she said that she was there, but she did not say or do anything to prevent it.

John was transported to Allegheny County Police Headquarters to be interviewed. In his mirandized interview John, who was identified as John Gourn (███████) admitted to making comments about Jane Doe’s breasts.

In other witness interviews it was learned that Gourn was at one time completely naked in the apartment while Jane Doe was present in the room.

I request that an arrest warrant be issued for John Gourn for the charges listed above.
