WACO, TX — A Texas woman with a history of child-related offenses now faces accusations she raped a 7-year-old boy.

Shapasshun Shatrese Brooks, 32, was arrested on August 30 and charged with a first-degree felony charge of aggravated sexual assault.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by KWTX, the child told police Brooks forced him to perform oral sex on her on March 15, 2024.

The charge stems from an investigation by the Waco Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit, which was initiated after police received an “injury to a child” report, KWTX reported.

A detective wrote in the warrant that the boy made an “outcry” that he had been sexually abused by Brooks.

The Waco Tribune-Herald noted that the child repeated the claim during a subsequent medical wellness exam.

A detective’s attempts to contact Brooks before filing for her arrest warrant were unsuccessful.

Court records reviewed by the Waco Tribune-Herald show that Brooks has been indicted twice before on charges involving a child.

In 2015, she was charged with endangering a child after failing to seek medical treatment for a boy in her care. This led to a five-year probation sentence.

In 2017, she violated a mandated curfew and, after a new arrest, Judge Susan Kelly found her guilty in August 2023, sentencing her to 14 months in state jail.

The Waco Tribune-Herald also reported that on the same day, Brooks was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child in the car in October 2022, receiving an additional 14-month state jail sentence to run concurrently with the other.

Brooks remains in McLennan County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
