SAN ANTONIO, TX — San Antonio police say they are trying to widen their investigation into a local minister accused of continuously sexually abusing a child and are urging any other possible victims to come forward.

According to KSAT, Ryan Peña was arrested earlier this month on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 years old, and investigators now believe the case may involve additional victims.

Police spokesperson Emily Garvin told the outlet the San Antonio Police Department wants anyone who may have been victimized by Peña, or who may know a victim, to contact investigators so they can continue building what she described as a complete picture of what happened.

Garvin said justice for victims remains important no matter when the alleged crimes occurred and said investigators will treat crimes reported years later the same way they would if they had happened recently.

An arrest warrant cited by KSAT alleges there were at least two victims who are now adults.

One of those victims was allegedly groomed when she was between 6 and 8 years old, according to the warrant, with the alleged abuse continuing until she was 17.

Peña is listed on the Ryan Peña Ministries website as part of the senior leadership at Church of Acts on San Antonio’s far West Side.

KSAT reported that church property appears to be the same property where Peña reportedly lives. The property is also near Royal Point Academy, a private elementary school serving pre-K through fifth grade students.

The station reported that some parents with children at the academy said they were alarmed by that proximity and had started monitoring the campus themselves to make sure Peña does not come onto school grounds.

In one email to KSAT, parents said they had established a schedule so that a parent would always be on campus for the foreseeable future until the end of the school year or until the situation is resolved.

Another parent told the outlet they were trying to find the best solution to help their children finish the school year while staying away from what the parent called a disgusting situation.

Garvin acknowledged that reporting sexual abuse can be especially difficult but said victims’ information is crucial to helping investigators prosecute the case to the fullest extent.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
