PORTLAND, OR — A 24-year-old Portland man has been accused of attempted murder after police said he opened fire during a fight in the parking lot of a Northeast Portland club, critically wounding one person and injuring another before leaving the scene.
According to The Oregonian/OregonLive, police said Tyree Burks was with a group that got into a fight with another group at the Lounge Gentleman’s Club in the 6200 block of Northeast Columbia Boulevard on Wednesday.
Investigators said Burks pulled out a handgun and fired at least twice. Court records cited by the outlet say camera footage showed him walk over to one of the victims and kick him after the gunfire. One victim was shot and suffered critical but not life-threatening injuries, while another person was assaulted and hurt.
Police allege Burks and a friend then tried to collect shell casings before leaving the scene. When officers searched the area, they found Burks’ identification card and used security footage to identify him, according to police.
Burks was arrested Friday and arraigned Monday on charges of attempted murder, attempted assault, assault with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. Court documents reviewed by the outlet say he has previous convictions for strangulation, assault, driving under the influence and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
