MIAMI, FL — Former NFL receiver Antonio Brown plans to accept a plea agreement that would spare him prison in an attempted murder case stemming from a 2025 shooting.

Brown’s lawyer announced the planned deal September 23, according to The Associated Press report published by WFLA. Brown is scheduled to appear in court September 30 to finalize it. A conviction on the current charge could carry up to 30 years in prison.

An arrest warrant alleges Brown grabbed a security staffer’s handgun after a celebrity boxing match in Miami on May 16, 2025, then fired twice at a man he had fought earlier. Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu told investigators a bullet grazed his neck.

Brown spent 12 years in the NFL, earned All-Pro honors and played much of his career with Pittsburgh. He last played in 2021 for Tampa Bay, where he won a Super Bowl alongside quarterback Tom Brady. His career totals included 928 receptions, more than 12,000 receiving yards and 88 total touchdowns, counting punt returns and a touchdown pass.

The report does not specify the agreement’s other terms or establish that a court has accepted it.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
