MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — A sheriff deputy in Texas is in jail for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old.

Authorities announced 42-year-old Landon Slatter was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child on Tuesday, March 4.

Slatter was a deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for 15 years.

In the same announcement, the sheriff’s office said Slatter immediately resigned from employment.

Detectives with the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office, assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children (I.C.A.C.) Task Force, launched a criminal investigation into allegations of sexual assault of a child involving Slatter.

Based on the investigation, detectives said they “developed probable cause,” but did not release any further information on the alleged crime.

Slatter was booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

“Upholding the trust and safety of our community is not just a responsibility, it is a duty we take seriously,” Sheriff Wesley Doolittle said. “The actions of one individual do not define the dedication and integrity of the men and women who serve honorably in this agency … We remain fully committed to transparency, justice, and cooperation with our partners in this investigation.”

ABC affiliate KTRK reported Slatter met an underage boy for sex multiple times beginning when he was 15.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
