BUFFALO, NY — A Jamestown man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges accusing him of threatening to assault and murder a federal law enforcement officer and using interstate communications to issue threats of violence.
U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo said the indictment charges Matthew White, 43, with threatening a Department of Homeland Security law enforcement officer in an effort to interfere with the officer’s official duties. The charges carry a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in federal prison, according to the Justice Department.
According to the indictment, the alleged threats stem from a series of social media posts made in April 2025. Prosecutors say that on April 30, White threatened to assault and murder a federal law enforcement officer employed by DHS. In one post cited in court records, White allegedly wrote, “I can’t wait to put a bullet into this guy’s brain, but first his children.”
White was arraigned Tuesday afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy and released on conditions, according to the Justice Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan K. Glaberson is handling the case.

Federal authorities say the indictment follows an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations Buffalo. ICE HSI Buffalo Special Agent in Charge Erin Keegan said the case began after investigators identified an X account believed to be operated by White that was publicly posting threats directed at federal immigration agents and administrators.
According to an ICE news release issued in July 2025, investigators recovered multiple threatening posts after White voluntarily spoke with agents on June 4 and allowed them to extract and review the contents of his phone. Those posts included statements calling for violence against ICE personnel and their families.
Among the posts outlined in the federal complaint, White allegedly wrote, “Kill them all, ICE is the new age gestapo, stop them,” and later added, “Kill them all, ICE is the new age gestapo, hurt them,” according to screenshots included in court filings obtained by Law & Crime.
In response to a video clip of Border Czar Tom Homan shared on X by the account @America, White allegedly commented, “Then understand that if your ICE agents don’t show proof of identity and a signed warrant, we will kill them,” according to the complaint.
Other posts attributed to White during the same period included statements such as, “And I will be there making sure that the constitution is followed and if not I will die trying to fight for democracy and I will kill an ICE agent, you want to play civil war, lets play bitch,” and, “Your agents are in danger if they don’t start showing identification and signed warrants, if the trump administration doesn’t have to follow the laws then neither do the American citizens, game on,” according to court records.
ICE officials said several of the threats were made in response to media coverage of ICE arrest operations, including an April 2025 arrest inside a Virginia courthouse. In at least one post, authorities said, White threatened to target an individual’s children.
“The defendant stands accused of making vile threats against officers and agents who risk their lives every day to uphold an oath they swore to protect the public — even those who wish them harm,” Keegan said in a statement when the criminal complaint was announced. “There is no place in our community for such hate against any human beings, including and especially innocent children.”
White was initially arrested July 1 on a criminal complaint charging him with communicating interstate threats, according to ICE. That complaint ultimately led to the grand jury indictment returned this week, the Justice Department said.
Federal prosecutors emphasized that the indictment represents allegations, not proof of guilt. As stated in the Justice Department release, a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
